Jackson, Mississippi (CNN)—On a recent Sunday morning just before dawn, two carloads of white teenagers drove to Jackson, Mississippi, on what the county district attorney says was a mission of hate: to find and hurt a black person.
In a parking lot on the western side of town they found their victim.
James Craig Anderson, a 49-year-old auto plant worker, was standing in a parking lot, near his car. The teens allegedly beat Anderson repeatedly, yelled racial epithets, including “White Power!“ according to witnesses.

When I read about the case of Kelly Williams-Bolar, I find myself confused. The 40-year-old Ohio mother of two is being sent to jail for using her father’s address to send her two daughters to a school in a better district. Williams-Bolar lives in a housing project in Akron, Ohio, and had sent her children to school in Copley Township using her father’s address.

Lexington – Congressman Ben Chandler today announced that the Urban League of Lexington-Fayette County will receive $1.1 million in federal stimulus funds to support broadband Internet training in Lexington neighborhoods.
“I am happy to see the Recovery Act at work today in Fayette County,” Chandler said. “We are creating jobs with this investment, and by laying this foundation for economic growth, we’ll see even more local jobs in the future. Congress passed the Recovery Act last year in the wake of the economic crisis to help our country heal and update our infrastructure for long-term economic growth. That is just what we are doing with this federal funding today.”
Lexington is one of seven communities nationwide to receive funding through the federal Broadband Technology Opportunity Program.
I was sitting at my desk after a discussion with a friend and was really saddened. I needed a pick me up of sorts to quit thinking about all of the negative things in life, whether it be racism, poverty, animosity, economy or whatever.
Anyway after hitting up facebook and connecting with a friend, who mentioned studying his bible, I figured why not do the same. I’ll listen to some scriptures while I knock out my design work. While listening, a scripture in 2 Corinthians sparked a memory of an old song.
So I hopped on youtube and began listening. And usually, for me anyway, one thought leads to another and I thought of this song by Tye Tribbett that I heard at the beginning of last year that I really appreciated. The title of the song is “Good in the Hood.“
I decided to look it up and it really made my day. Sometimes it’s good to get confirmation about the things you care about and realize that there are bright spots in every aspect of life. So I decided to share with all those who come by to check out WGO.

I came across this video by checking into an FB post from a friend. I love the concept of buying from and supporting black businesses. Being a black business owner myself, I know of the ups and downs of making it in business as well as convincing others of your skill set and talents.

There I was, washing my hands at the sink, my senses alive and my eyes enchanted by the almost fluorescent green of the liquid soap. My skin tingly with the germ killing aptitude of the silky smooth emollients. My mind boggled by the soap’s ability to moisturize while slaughtering icky bacteria and germs with reckless abandon. My nose enthralled by the scents of juicy melons (not sure which melons and how juicy, but, just go with me on this). My very soul energized and provoked by extracts of various fruits, berries, and trees from the farthest jungles all around the world.
Then, I thought about this question, and it resonated with my own doubts/fears/neuroses: “What if soap didn’t work?”
